Mission Statement (IC)

“Your bridge between city-states: logistics, diplomacy, skilled hands, and steady blades—one banner, many strengths.”

About (IC)

Motto / Thesis :
“Connection over isolation; cooperation over convenience.”

What ICON IsICON, the Collegium of Orders & Nations, is a cross-border institution built for one simple purpose: turning distance into connection. Where others see borders, tariffs, and old grudges, we see routes, agreements, and opportunities to do better—by doing the work.In practice, that means ICON operates as a coalition of specialists: negotiators, guards, couriers, artisans, scholars, quartermasters, and the occasional person whose résumé is “I have survived worse.” We cultivate relationships between factions and communities across Hydaelyn through trade, craft, diplomacy, and service—sometimes in candlelit halls, sometimes on the road, and sometimes in the inconvenient middle of nowhere.ICON is not a monolith. It is a network: pragmatic enough to function, principled enough to matter, and flexible enough to make room for characters who want to build something larger than themselves—without pretending the world is kinder than it is.

About (OOC)

OOC OverviewICON is a collaborative writing community focused on lore-forward, character-driven roleplay. We aim for scenes that feel like they belong in the world: grounded motivations, believable constraints, and stakes that land—without demanding that anyone write like a novelist on a deadline. Our culture
●Collaborative play: you bring strong choices; we build with you, not against you
●Consequences are real: characters can fail, recover, and learn in public
●Consent-first: we prioritize player comfort over “realism” every time
How we organize
●Discord is the hub (planning, scene scheduling, announcements, lore notes)
●Scenes run from casual walk-up RP to scheduled story arcs, depending on the moment
Participation
●We value consistency over intensity. If you are part of a Story Arc and cannot be active in for a period, communicate.
●If you vanish without word for long stretches, we may assume you have moved on—no drama, just housekeeping.
Tone
●Mature themes can appear (IC politics, violence, hardship), but we are not here to make anyone miserable.
●Fun is not optional; it is simply held to a higher standard than chaos.

Δ Our Roleplay Δ The Types of Roleplay We Engage In Δ

Δ Community Story Arc RP Δ
Story Arc Roleplay encompasses the ongoing narrative in which characters formally take part in the ICON Community's sanctioned evolving tale.
Participants are expected to employ their character sheets and adhere to the established rules, tone, and lore as set forth by the Community Leaders and its appointed Storyteller. This ensures coherence within the greater chronicle we weave together. The exception to using the character sheets is up to the Storyteller to consider, allowing for free agency of the person doing the story arc.

Δ The Higher Standard for Roleplay Δ●Keep IC & OOC separate.
●Post in third person.
●Don't god mode or metagame.
●Accept the consequences of roleplay.
●Provide OOC consent for any roleplay situation that may require it.
●Avoid L33T speak or abbreviations in roleplay.
●Limit OOC chatter in /say /shout /yell.
●We do not practice multi-verse or multi-timeline roleplay

Δ ICON Story System (Playtest) ΔOur Free Company uses a custom story system based on Mind’s Eye Theatre – Vampire: The Masquerade (First Edition), adapted for FFXIV roleplay. This system is currently in playtest, and we’re actively refining it through live scenes and feedback.Feedback and playtesters are very welcome – if you’d like to try it out or share your thoughts, please reach out to an officer in-game or via Discord.

Δ Community Member Story RP Δ
Member Story Roleplay includes Community-endorsed gatherings, missions, and collaborative scenes shared among our members. While often less formal than the primary Story Arc, such roleplay will honor the Community’s guidelines minus Story Member choices for the story, and any existing lore bending they choose. Character sheets may be used if the players wish, and continuity with the Community’s world-building is encouraged to maintain a unified narrative tradition.
Again, the Member Story Roleplay standards are left up to the member whose story is being played out.E.g. "Relaxed RP - Roleplays may use abbreviations in character: "U need to b here."This is more of a bendable area for people who enjoy roleplay that may step a bit outside lore.

Δ Personal RP Δ
Personal Roleplay refers to stories conducted beyond the sight or involvement of the Community—whether private encounters or public scenes elsewhere in FFXIV. These narratives may diverge from established canon as each player sees fit, be it through ancient bloodlines, star-faring histories, or other fantastical origins. We simply ask that such tales remain distinct and hidden from the Community’s shared lore and Story Arc, so that our collective narrative remains consistent and harmonious.

The Collegium Annex Address: Mists | Ward 29; Plot 2

Δ Ambassadors & Nobles Δ
We are the faces invited through the front doors—smiling, measured, and rarely surprised.
• Host salons, dinners, and private conferences where favors are exchanged as politely as wine.
• Secure introductions and permissions that coin alone cannot purchase.
• Sponsor commissions and expeditions, then manage the politics when a “small request” becomes public spectacle.
• Wage reputational war with whispers, endorsements, and carefully timed apologies.

Δ Artisans Δ
We make the Collegium visible. A banner is only cloth until someone gives it meaning.
• Accept commissions with consequence: diplomatic gifts, ceremonial regalia, restorations, bespoke field tools.
• Hold showcases and critiques—where rival ateliers smile sweetly and sharpen knives behind the curtain.
• Investigate shortages and sabotage: counterfeit materials, missing pigments, tainted reagents, broken shipments.
• Teach apprentices, run workshops, and build renown stitch by stitch, blow by blow, and line by line.

Δ The Courts Δ
We attend where the air is heavy with incense and implication—where words strike harder than steel.
• Appear as advocates, witnesses, escorts, or inconveniently informed observers at hearings and councils.
• Duel with etiquette, precedent, and wording that can turn a “promise” into a noose.
• Unmask the machinery beneath the pageantry: forged papers, bribed clerks, stolen petitions, weaponized procedure.
• Negotiate terms under pressure—ceasefires, settlements, and agreements written to survive bad faith.

Δ Craftsmen & Tradesmen Δ
We keep the world moving. Grand ideals are charming; supplies are essential.
• Run procurement and logistics: contracts, bids, quality disputes, schedules, penalties, and liability.
• Build networks of the people who actually make cities function—guilds, port officials, caravan masters, factor-houses.
• Resolve commercial conflict: missing cargo, damaged goods, broken terms, and debts that must be collected tactfully.
• Chart new routes and markets—then deal with the road’s opinion of our plans.

Δ Scholastic & Clergy Δ
We tend the spirit, the record, and the hard questions others prefer to avoid.
• Offer rites and counsel: blessings, memorials, mediation, and steady presence after difficult work.
• Research what others forget: treaties, regional custom, lineage, relic provenance, and history’s inconvenient footnotes.
• Argue the ethics when profit and duty collide—because someone must insist on a line worth keeping.
• Convene lectures, debates, and symposia where knowledge becomes influence and doctrine becomes policy.

Δ Swordsmen Δ
We are the reason negotiations happen indoors. We do not seek trouble—trouble is simply punctual.
• Escort caravans and dignitaries; secure high-value deliveries; stand watch where failure is not an option.
• Drill and spar: training nights, evaluations, tactics briefings, rivalries forged into discipline.
• Handle field problems: banditry, extortion, sabotage, and the violence that shadows commerce like weather.
• Investigate from the sharp end: route scouting, recoveries, stakeouts, and questioning that stays within consent and sense.

What is "Yes and..."? Theatre Improv

(Free Company & Community Guide)

Δ Short Version Δ“Yes, and…” is the core habit of collaborative roleplay: you accept what your scene partner has established, then you add something that moves the scene forward. “Yes” means you do not negate the shared reality (“That didn’t happen,” “No it isn’t,” “You’re wrong about what you saw”). “And” means you contribute a new detail, action, or emotional stake that gives the other person something to respond to.In practice: acknowledge the offer, build on it, and leave room for your partner to act. If something needs correcting for comfort or continuity, step OOC briefly, adjust, and return to the scene.

Δ Long Version ΔImpromptu Performance as an Art FormImprov theatre (or improvisational theatre) is a performance methodology in which actors create scenes, dialogue, characters, and sometimes entire narratives in the moment, without a predetermined script.Core Characteristics1. Spontaneity
Scenes unfold based solely on prompts, audience suggestions, or the performers’ own impulses. Nothing is prewritten.
2. Collaborative Construction
Every performer is both a creator and a listener. The scene advances through shared contribution rather than individual dominance.
3. Elastic Structure
Improv often uses “games,” frameworks, or rules (e.g., time limits, character challenges), but the actual content is entirely emergent.
4. Commitment to Offers
Performers treat each idea introduced—words, gestures, environmental miming, emotional tone—as an “offer” that should be acknowledged and incorporated.
5. Risk and Play
The art thrives on uncertainty. Mistakes are reframed as opportunities that can become the best comedic or dramatic beats.
6. Audience Co-Creation
Many formats involve real-time audience input, making the audience a functional part of the creative engine.

Δ Long Version Con't Δ“Yes, and…”: The Foundational Principle of ImprovThe phrase “Yes, and…” is the central behavioral rule of improvisational performance. It governs how performers accept ideas and collaboratively build scenes. What “Yes, and…” Means◉ “Yes” = Accept the reality your scene partner has created. Do not negate it, contradict it, or pull the scene off its established trajectory.◉ “And” = Add new information, context, action, or emotional stakes that advance the scene in a meaningful direction.Internally it becomes:
“I validate what you have introduced, and I contribute something additional that enriches or escalates the narrative.”
Why It Matters1. Maintains Scene Momentum
Rejection or contradiction (“blocking”) stalls scenes. Acceptance keeps movement fluid.
2. Strengthens Ensemble Trust
If partners know their choices will be supported, they take bolder creative risks.
3. Builds a Shared Reality
Characters, settings, and circumstances become consistent and believable.
4. Enables Heightening
By stacking ideas rather than restarting, scenes escalate naturally toward comedic or dramatic peaks.
5. Transfers Across Disciplines
Although rooted in theatre, “yes, and…” is widely used in:
✧Corporate communication
✧Product ideation
✧Facilitation and workshops
✧Negotiation and conflict management
✧Leadership coaching
Examples
Poor Improv (Blocking)
Performer A: “Captain, the ship is sinking!”
Performer B: “No it isn’t.”
→ Reality breaks, scene dies.
Effective Improv (“Yes, and…” in action)Performer A: “Captain, the ship is sinking!”
Performer B: “Yes, and I told you we should not have let the octopus drive.”
→ Scene expands with new comedic direction.
Why It’s Considered an ArtImprov blends:
✧Real-time narrative design
✧Emotional responsiveness
✧Character embodiment
✧Verbal and nonverbal communication strategy
✧Ensemble coordination
Because nothing is scripted, improv is both a performance and a display of cognitive dexterity.
